Alternative methods in veterinary medicine and animal health
QIMA Life Sciences has initiated a research and development program in cell and tissue engineering applied to veterinary medicine in order to offer innovative and alternative research tools for the selection and characterization of health-oriented products (medicine, food, medical devices), as a complement to animal experimentation.
Our laboratory can now offer several canine and murine in vitro models (primary cultures, reconstructed tissues, ex vivo models for skin or osteoarticular system research). These models were initially developed in cooperation with veterinary practitioners, especially in respect to sample sourcing for cell culture.
We have performed extensive technological monitoring and listing of the current commercially available research tools (antibodies, DNA chips, ELISA kits, etc.) in order to be able to rapidly complete the feasibility study of a method. We can also benefit from our long-established expertise in the development of protocols for the modelling of pathologies (inflammation, infection, senescence, degeneration, atopic dermatitis) or aggression (stress, wound healing).
We have also developed non-invasive skin sampling techniques and associated bioanalysis methods in order to offer in vitro and ex vivo alternatives suitable for the evaluation of dermatological disorders.
Our objective is to propose customized models and coherent methods so as to meet the requirements of an animal health research project. We are currently looking for industrial or academic partners for the continuation of our R&D program, for the initiation of pilot studies on new species such as cats or horses.
